What is ACT?

ACT was started to be organized as an alternative exam to the SAT in 1959 by Everett Franklin Lindquist, a professor at the University of Iowa. The ACT exam originally consisted of four main parts. These; They were English (English), Mathematics (Math), Social Studies and Natural Science departments. In the following years, the Social Studies division was renamed Reading, and the rote-based Natural Science division was renamed the Scientific Reasoning division to test students' reasoning and problem-solving abilities. In 2005, the optional Writing-Essay test was added to the ACT.

What Chapters Are in the ACT?

A CT exam consists of four basic parts;

Apart from the 4 core sections above, the ACT also has an optional 40-minute Essay Writing exam that you can take. Some schools require students to complete the Writing section as well.

The multiple-choice ACT exam consists of a total of 215 questions. Question distribution; It consists of 75 English, 40 Reading, 60 Mathematics, 40 Science questions.

How to Calculate Score in ACT?

In the ACT exam, each section is scored between 1-36. While the maximum score you can get is 36, the average success score of the exam is 21. The average of the total score you get from the sections constitutes the net score you get from the exam. Since the Writing section is optional, the score for the Writing section is calculated between 2-12 points and is kept separate from your overall exam score.

How Long Does the ACT Take?

The duration of the exam for students who will not take the Writing exam is 2 hours and 55 minutes, and the total time for students who will take the Writing exam is 3 hours and 35 minutes.

What is the Fee for the ACT?

The fee for the ACT exam is $150 for students who will not take the Writing exam, and $166.50 for students who will take the Writing exam.

Who Can Take the ACT Exam?

All students who have completed their high school education, registered for the exam and paid the exam fee can take the ACT exam. It is recommended that high school students who want to study abroad, especially in the USA and Canada, start to study for the ACT exam from the 3rd grade. There is no age limit to take the exam. ACT or SAT? Which Should You Prefer?

Most colleges and universities accept the SAT or ACT exams for admission to undergraduate programs. Therefore, students who want to enter these universities are required to take these exams. But it is important to know which exam you need to take. First, you need to check whether the university you are applying to requires the SAT or ACT, and then decide which test you should take. Because the content and style of the SAT and ACT are similar, factors such as how you deal with time pressure and which areas you struggle with the most can help you determine which test is best for you.
It is certainly not true to say that one of the two exams is easier than the other. We can only say that both exams can appeal to different types of students. The ACT may be a more appropriate test for students with a strong English background and verbal skills, and the SAT for students with strong math skills.
